Default Hurst Short Shifter PROBLEMS!! @ Track

Hey guys I have a hurst short shifter and I was powershifting through the gears. Unfortunately though I can't hit 4th gear at all??? I tried about 6 times and every time missed its as if it gets blocked out just enough to sit there and grind the synchro or something? Any ideas?? I'm thinking about switching over to a B&M ripper shifter to cure my problem but thought I would pass this idea past you guys.

Remove the stops (hex bolts on the side with a locking nut). C-5's have the stops built into the tranny. Common problem. Try a search.

Problem seems to be the stop bolt becomes loose, which is why the package comes with Lock-tite. However, as I mentioned before, the C-5 tranny already has stop points so the Hurst stop points aren't necessary. So the fix is to just remove those bolts/screws on the side of the shifter. I just put a Hurst on my MN6 this weekend and after research, this is what I know. If there is someone more more knwledgeable, please chime in.

Hope its not your transmission. My Ripper started doing the same thing so I put my stocker back in. I still had the problem. A few days later, it would start grinding. Now I am having my tranny rebuilt.

I'll remove the stop bolts and see if I can try to get it up to powershifting into 4th gear. It's hard to find room other then a track to get that fast ;) A run from the tollbooth may be able to help there, I will try and repost on this thread.

I was also thinking to change over the trans fluid? My car only has about 8,900 miles so I don't know if that will help or not.

My .2 cents: If the tranny is still okay, you might get some serious problems with it, if you do powershifting to often !
This kind of abusing a transmission will alway result in damage.

the M6 and M12 trannys in the C5's are notoriously weak. I am on my 3rd tranny and only have 20k miles on my 2001. Granted, i drag race it a lot every season, but, I agree that these tranny's are junk. I am considering an M6-to-A4 (or TH400) conversion.
