C5's Camel Mode---Do you know about this feature??
This feature is featured in this month's Corvette Quarterly. I had never heard of it before. When the LS1 ( I assume the LS6 as well) begins to overheat it will shut down a cylinder in the motor. If it continues to overheat it will continue shutting down cylinders until it converts from a liquid-cooled V-8 to an air cooled 4-cylinder to help protect vital parts.     It can't run too long like this, just a few miles, but is incredible engineering nonetheless.

I didn't know about it either until I read it in Corvette Quarterly. Another cool thing is that once it gets down to 4, it alternates cylinders that are shut down and those that are firing to try to improve cooling further (so the same 4-cylinders do not continue to fire).

That is incredible, what they do with a basic computer program, it is hot as hell in FL and very humid so cooling is of primary concern and considering my mods something I have spent some time and money on, it will scare the crap out of you when this alum engine get to 250 before you know it (stuck fan on the original ATI setup) I have a fan controller, low them, and be-cool radiator, I expect no probs with the stroker which will be in the car within 30 days or so--interesting info

I have an uncle that has worked with gm before. He told me that when they were testing this functionality out on the Northstar cadillac they drove it from detroit to vegas and back like that.
I believe once it is in the 4 cylinder mode it will also start alternating which 4 cylinders it uses to help keep things even cooler.

Thats a pretty long drive with no coolant, But I do remember one of the magazines testing the feature and they got 500 miles that way with no real problem. I have both an STS with the Northstar and a C5 I guess I'm twice as lucky
