Is anyone getting any kind of check engine light or are any codes being displayed as a result of changing from the factory thermostat to a 160 degree thermostat. Also is anyone running any richer as a result of this change.
Ive been using a 160 Hypertech thermostat for three years with no problems at all,,, I use a 195 in the winter... and change it around memorial day, to the 160.. I live outside of Philadelphia... with the 195 thermostat my coolant temp gets to the 240 range on a 90 + day in the summer..aand the oil temp is way up there too... because the air flow is so restricted to the radiator..the 160 is great on a hot 90 + day the car only gets to 190 in traffic... I also have a Vinci fan controller. on my last trip to Atlantic city . running at night with the outside temp @ 55 degrees .. the coolant was at 170 F the oil temp was at 185 aand I was getting 34.5 MPG.. running AT 70 MPH. The AC expressway is 45 miles long and is relatively flat..
I've been running a 160 for a week with no codes set. Easy change and a nice drop in highway temps. I MAY be running a litle rich, but I believe that's from the recalibrated MAT sensor change - I've changed back to stock to check.
I was smelling gas when I would park the car in the garage after driving it. I already have the fans reprogrammed to come on before 205, the car never goes above 210 in town, stop and go traffic with AC off and stock thermostat. Wasn't worth the few degrees cooler it was running with the 160, considering possible engine damage(O2 sensors, plugs, catalytic converter, etc.)
