Default Cam suggestions....

Stock gears.

Daily driver.

A & A heads purchased used from GHT = milled .035 so no cams that will bump compression up.

Don't want to ruin mpg.

Must use 91-92 Octane.

What cams should I be looking at.

Want to make power in near stock RPM range.

No radicle tuning, and drivable without.

MMS 218 duration, .558" lift, 114LSA: no idle problems, stock drivability (except for the greater power :D ) no tuning issues, passes smog, good horsepower and torque, run it to 6,100 to 6,400. See sig. for power.

you have to think real mild. even my 220 duration had a choppy idle and lost bottom end before tuning

220/553/114 Thunder Racing cam here. It does all that you want. It picked up 10 rwhp with tuning, but it drove and idled just as good before tuning.

You might talk to some Forum vendors about Comp's 216/220. It's a surprisingly good cam.

I'm running the Comp Cam 216/220 @ 525/532 lift 114 LS and you would never know anything was done to the car until you drive it. Near perfect idle quality and drivability.. HIGHLY recommended for those that don't want too radical a cam and still provide a nice increase over the stock setup..

I found a good deal on a cam:

212 / 216 comp with the same specs as the 216 220 - we will see how it goes.

That's a REALLY mild cam. IMHO I wouldn't go through the trouble and expense of a cam swap for that little change. That cam may net you an additional 15 to 20 horsepower, why not go a LITTLE more agressive, like some here have suggested and get 30 or more HP, and still sound and drive like stock  Seriously, my 218 cam acts like a stocker, except for the additional power. The 220 cams will probably drive the same. Get more lift, and more duration, or you'll probably be kicking yourself later.

I also want to make my power in the stock RPM Range. We'll see If I don't like it, I'll put in a different one.

How can a cam raise compression? Compression is determined by the volume of the combustion chamber with the piston at TDC right? All a cam does is move the intake/exhaust valves in/out. Please correct me if I am wrong...

you're right, cams only control the amount of intake and exhaust with the valves.

a cam can dictate cylinder pressure, which can act like a change in compression, thats one of the reasons its a tricky part of modding
