Did you ever have any problems with the ripper causeng your trans to hang up in any gear? Mine has been hangin in 4th for no appearant reason. It does it when im not drving hard. And i have to beat the crap out of it to get it out and back into neutral. any ideas???
Unfortunately that is a tranny problem and not a shifter problem. My friend has the same problem you describe and he has a stock shifter.

:yesnod: C5's are VERY stiff, if chassis flex caused your shifter to lock up you'd never see Mustang owners make a successful gear change.

Just a note about the Hurst shifter (which I have and like.)

When you install it you MUST put loctite on the adjustment screws or better yet just remove them altogether. Otherwise they can vibrate loose and when they do you can't shift to, say, all your even gears. This happened to me when I drove up to the Cruise In a couple of weeks ago. Luckily Violater was there and fixed it for me (removed the offending screws and tossed them.) He also loctited the four mounting screws for added security.

I noticed that you have had work done by Mallett Cars. Any feedback on the work, customer service, etc.?

I have tried both the Kirban & Hurst shifters and thought both took to much effort to shift, although I did like the short throw. I went back to the stock shifter. I currently have the kirban shifter listed in the C5 parts for sale section for $150 shipped. If interested send me an e-mail

While this is actually off topic, in response to your question I have to say that Mallett is in my experience one of the most professional outfits out there for engine and suspension tuning. I haven't dealt with Lingenfelter, for example, who has much the same rep. But I would always rely on Mallett for straight and effective (I didn't say cheap) deals for your car.

Just finished test driving my Vette after shortening my stock shifter as mentioned above, and it's absolutely a new shifter! I was mainly looking for a shorter shifter, as I found the stock length too tall for my particular driving style (resting the forearm on the center bolster).

Took me 5 times as long to find the 10mm tap, die, and 11/32nd drill bit as it did to do the whole mod, for less than $15.

Have a good one,
Mike

B&M Ripper with Flameball **** (screwed on with Locktite and has never loosened.) Had a Momo **** that was not a screw-on type and the setscrews would never stay tight, even with Locktite.
