Default How to get oil analysis done?

Myapologies for brining up something I've seen on here before, but I can't find the topic now.

How do I get an oil analysis done? Does the dealer send it in at request or do I do it? How much oil should I save? If anyone has a contact number or address I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

See you on the caravan!

I use Blackstone Laboratories, go to http://www.blackstone-labs.com
or call 260-744-2380

They will give you a oil sample kit free, it's about 4 ounces. Analysis cost $20, plus an extra $10 to do TBN ( tells additives left if you want to explore extended oil change intervals.

Once Blackstone sends you the sample bottle, you need to make sure you drive your car at least 20 miles to get the oil good and hot. Then clean around the drain plug area thoroughly, and when you take off the plug, wait about 20-30 seconds before collecting the sample. Be sure not to keep the sample bottle open for very long, so open it just after you take off the drain plug, and then as soon as you collect the oil, close it up. This keeps the sample from being contaminated.

Then just send in the oil and wait patiently for the results.

For your first time getting an oil analysis, I highly recommend asking Blackstone for their Terry Dyson service package. What will happen is that Blackstone will send the report to Terry, who has over 20 years experience interpreting oil analysis results. He's the best in the business! Plus with his package it includes TBN as well.

I don't use Blackstone since I'm in Canada and found a local Wearcheck lab which is only 5 miles from my house (so turnaround time for me is less than 48 hours!) however I do send my results to Terry for interpretation afterwards. He charges $10 for that service. He's very good because no matter how many questions you ask him,he's quick with an answer. I even had a bunch of questions I wanted to talk directly to him about, and sent him an email asking him to phone me at work, and within 10min he called me. He'll work directly with you to help you determine your best oil choice, viscosity, oil filter and intervals.

For anyone interested in choosing the best oil for their cars, oil analysis is the way to go.
