Default Champion XLT (AGM) battery ?

Is that one (p/n DT35/CHXDT35) a gel filled battery, like the Optima? I tried to find info on the internet but haven't had any luck. Sams has thrm for $95.46.

Hey lower case! Check out the Exide at Napa. Exide has the patent on gel cell. Look on Napa website for info. Good guy price is cheaper. My part no. is 9986/75. :seeya

Hey upper case :seeya Thanks to all of you for the info. Well I've called Napa and Sams. Here's the skinny: I checked out the Champion/ Exide site and as Rich mentions, Exide owns Champion. Sam's has the above mentioned battery for $95.46. It is a Champion gel filled, but it is not the Exide Orbital. Napa has the Exide Orbital for $120. Is the Orbital worth the extra $$ ?

I've had my Orbital since 6/01 (did not trust the Delco). It's been through two winter hibernations (Oct-April) and cranks every time. $30 is a small price to pay for "piece of mind". I believe that it has an 84 month pro-rated warranty. I even put one in my Lexus. They come with a cheap Panasonic (yes, Panasonic also makes batteries). Good luck with your choice.

Thanks MikeK. According to Exides website, they're battery has a 24 mos free replacement. According to the above post, the Champion has a 36 mos free replacement so I'm not sure which is better. Oh well, I'm fixinf to flip a quarter.

Upper case, you should be in sales ...... smooth, very smooooooooth  :seeya

MikeK, I had a Panasonic battery in my Lexus SC 300 and it lasted for 9 years and the one in my Toyota truck lasted for 12 years. I tried to find Panasonic lead/acid batteries for replacements and was told that they are not available in the U.S. I live in the same valley as you, so the conditions are familiar to you. I would have replaced any battery with a Panasonic if only I could find them. :D :D

Well the quarter landed on the Champion/ Sams side. Just got back. It looks like all the other gel types, w/ several individual cylindrical shape thingies. Thanks for the opinions and info gentlemen. On a positive note (no pun intended), the original battery still looked good and works fine but I didn't want to take a chance on leaking acid.

Maybe I jumped the gun but I just don't trust OEM batteries. Most seem to go in 2-3 years and at the most inopportune times. $120 is just "security".
