Re: Muffler Alignment....whats it take? (SurfnSun)
Set them where you want them, then tac weld the pipes where the clamps are. The clamps are slipping. This is the most common reason & the easiest way to solve the problem.

when I installed my z06 exhaust on my 99 hardtop it took me half a day and it still is not that good. My left side was lower than the right as I have noted on other c5's so it stands to reason that the new/take off z06 system would also be off and it was. I elongated the holes in the flanges of the stock pipes and shimed the mounting bracket on the right side to lower the right side to beter match the left. I them preloaded it more than I liked while tourqing the flange bolts and it is still off a bit. BTW with the old black oval tips the misalingment between left and right was not too noticeable as you can guess with crome tips the difference is very noticeable.

I asked the same question on this forum a few months back and got quite a variety of suggestions.
The approach I took that worked for me, is the rubber thingy (that's a technical term) that the strap goes into has another slot that is not cut all the way through. I removed the rubber with an xacto knife and was able to fix a misalignment that I would not have thought possible.
Another suggestion is to bend the strap. I was not aware the strap could move, so next time I am underneath, I plan on looking at that.

I just had the ZO6 exhaust installed at Midas ( Don't laugh they new exactly what they were doing) I was concerned about lifting the vet and they had me drive up on 2x6's and lifted it with pucks all the way around. My alignment on the tailpipes was off, a lot. The guy heated up the torch and heated it up at an elbow, he then pulled it into place effortlessly.
