I agree with SpinMonster but gains depend in who does the heads and how they flow. Typically a ported LS6 head is 10-15 over a ported LS1, but 20 is definitely possible. I'm going with 5.3L ported LS1 heads and hopefully i'll see the same results as the LS6 heads due to the additional compression. Are the gains worth the premium price you pay for LS6 heads over LS1's? I don't think so.
My guy that does the head work on my car works extensively on both and with the same mods he gets 20 to 25 more out of the ls6 heads everything else being equal. would it be worth it just for the heads? your decision, its just that without the heads you can only get so much out of your other mods as well, unfortunately everything is related and the ls6 heads open up the potential for more power in other areas as well.
I just changed from stock ls1 heads/manifolds to stock ls6 heads/tpis headers and picked up 25-30rwhp total.
before dyno 345rwhp @ 70f/35%humidity, after 368rwhp 82f/60%.
The headers were supposed to be a 14-17rwhp gain, so looks like 10-13 on the heads.
We get slightly better results from the ported/polished 6.0 litre truck head than the LS6,plusin stock configuration you ditch a bit of compression for forced air,and in the other direction we mill them .040 and raise cr from 10.5:1 up tp 10.9:1 which we also sometimes use under 6lb,boost applications. Thanks Dave S.
