Default C5 flywheel

I am having the torque tube replaced in my 02 6 speed this week. My question is I have heard a lot about lighter flywheels, and a gain in the area of 40 horsepower by changing the stock flywheel to a lighter one, does anyone know if this is correct, and if so what is a good one to buy?

The only drawback is you need to add a little more RPM for a smooth, gentle takeoff from a stop. This is to compensate for the lower inertia of the lighter flywheel. The gains (faster reving engine, more rwhp) are worth it. What an aluminum(or lightweight) flywheel does is reduce the amount of horsepower needed to turn the flywheel so that horsepower can be used to turn the wheels by lowering the moment of inertia characteristics of your engine.
Fidanza flywheel from Scoggin Dickey for $340 plus 2nd day air.

:iagree: However... You WON'T see 40 more HP. More like 10 HP. Still, I think it's a good mod. I've had one for about 8k miles :yesnod:

The reduced wieght will allow the engine to rev up and down quicker. This will also possibly change the off throttle "coasting" characteristics of the car.
Not necessarily a problem, just something to possibly expect.

Let us know what you do and how it works out.
