On the way home from the Ale House tonight after turning off the highway and rounding a tight corner at a safe speed .... i wasnt hauling butt this time :o) ..... the car generated a message to the effect of Reduced Engine Power, the car practically died midturn, i had enough power to inch my way to the shoulder ... after sitting for a second and thinking, i turned off the car, let it sit for a second and cranked her back up. Everything was fine, cept the battery volts guage continue to display... i drove to the house, fortunately about 4 or 5 blocks away from the failure point. Ran a quick websearch on the DIC codes and found this.
28TCS C1278 (Traction Control System Temporarily Inhibited by Powertrain Control Module)
10PCM P1518H (PCM to TAC Module Serial Data Circuit)
I gather the the circuit in the second code is what cause the 28TCS error, the TCS was definately disabled as the car basically wouldnt move more than a couple mph. Does anyone know anything about that circuit, and or if this could be a nasty problem to look for? I have cleared all codes from the DIC and ran the car at an idle. and did not generate anything just sitting there. This is the first time this has happened, so im hoping the car just had a simple computer crash /pray.
Re: Interesting Powertrain Control System Failure? (EMTEKCIT)
Occasionally the PCM looses track of where the throttle position is (TAC). When this condition occurs it immediately goes to reduced power mode. This is not uncommon and normally clearing the codes solves the problem.
Re: Interesting Powertrain Control System Failure? (gonbad)
Interesting!! How do you go about clearing the codes? pressing the reset button? I'm with tripadation that we may end up having to be programmers or "geeks" to keep a Corvette running...Thanks!
