Default Open air box lid install

I have yet to do anything to my car except drive it. I purchased a replacement K&N and was going to install it when the oem filter needed to be replaced.

West Coast Corvettes has an oem air box cover that is modified by having what looked like an 8" square hole cut in the front. I am thinking of getting one. My question is that when I undo the two bands that allow me to replace the filter, will that front piece also lift out? Can I just swap my stock one for the modified one without having to unbolt stuff etc?

Also, if anyone has done this type of mod, do you notice increased intake noise when you are on the throttle?

Thanks

Jay

If its a OEM style cover it only requires that a few torx bolts be removed to replace it but they are not easy to get to. I did a stock style to Z06 style swap in less than 30 minutes. Good Luck!!!

undo the two clips on top of the air cleaner (flip them up) move them out of the way, i move mine to the outside of the hood. pull out the air cleaner.
look down between the hood and front facia/bumper-you will see
two post that the cover is pushed onto. put your hands down to
the bottom of the cover and push it off the pins. the cover will lift right out now. reverse procedure for installation. very easy :yesnod:

you can cut a hole in the lid you have use a roto zip bit in a drill and cut any
shape you want. I use the roto zip bit and a die grinder and cut rectangles
in the cover between the support ribs. I also trimed the ribs.

Did you notice any difference in performance? I have a 99FRC and have been thinking about doing just what you discribed. Are you still using the stock filter or did you change to a K&N?

I installed the Z06 lid and K&N with no noticable change. :(
