While shopping for some catalytic con. and an X-pipe package, there are mainly two sizes available- 2 3/4" and 3". What performance differences will be seen between the two different sizes or if the size is all preference?
All info appreciated,
Chris
I feel 3" is a bit on the big size for a mostly stock LS1 motor. I don't think it would lose you much power in the upper RPMs but would definitely lose you some torque below 4000rpm. I think 2.5" is probably optimum for a bolt-on LS1, 2.75" for heads/cam and 3.00" for stroker/bored LS1s.
I know I lost some torque in the low end even on my 436 over the 2.5" setup I had, but I did pick up 15rwhp from going with larger diameter headers, 3" midpipe and 3" in/out mufflers.
Another question, has anybody replaced their catalytic con. even though the car isn't 5 years old, 50,000 miles, in need of replacment or whatever the law states.
