Ok,, time for new plugs in mint 99 nassau blue. Driven by retired senior citizen :hurray: who seldom leaves black strips. ( :bs ) and never turns off traction control ( :bs ) but would like to stay at new performance.
Here is the question..
What type/ specific brand/number / gap
I have heard it is difficult/special tools for dr/rear plug. What's the scoop from someone who has actually changed the plugs.
What torque. Thanks. a bunch from a senior citizen. :blueangel:
All '99 C5s come with platinum plugs but there were 2 versions: AC platinums and NGK platinums.
I believe GM ran out of the AC platinums due to a strike in mid/end '98 and had to put in NGK platinums. Check which ones you have. If you have the AC type plugs, replace them with NGK TR55IX (iridiums) because the AC plugs tend to lose the pucks.
If you have the NGK type plugs as I had, just take one or two out for inspection.
I had 50000 miles on the stock NGK plugs and they looked like new.
I just installed the NGK TR55IX plugs that came pre-gapped at .55 I installed them as they came out of the box. I also installed new MSD wires while I was at it. $135 and the car idles like a Lexus.
Shop around, and never just buy off the forum. Send a few vendors an e-mail and ask for their best price on a package. I won't mention the vendor as I was asked not to but I bought the plugs and wires for $135.
I just installed the NGK TR55IX plugs , bought from http://www.rockauto.com they were less then $60. and the wires from Summit , Taylor or MSD are about $60. also. I'm also a senior, it took me 2 1/2 hrs to put plugs in , over half of that was on #7, don't forget to use antisieze on the new plugs, good luck Jim.
 Thanks to all replys. I did also read the post of " all changing plugs" I was wondering about the NGK vs Delco,, also I found the double socket from SO. I ordered on line while reading post. I have done plugs on my Lincoln Mark series w/only 3/4 " clearance. Also on the church car the area was so tight I had my 5 year old (now 22) reach in to pull the plug out. I plan to do my plugs on the C5 but I do want all the right stuff first. :iagree: . I put new plugs in my daughters car that also has 100K between tune ups in the manual, and at 75K the plat. tips were gone and the center wire burned down into the insulator. Therefore the C5 will get them real soon.. 99 Nassau blue,, 44,000 miles.. vettdvr :auto:
