I got the car back earlier this week from the shop that fitted my new 4.10. At first there was a little noise and this just got louder. The shop had put GM Syncromesh in the differential after talking to a local dealer. They confirmed again with the dealer as they were not convinced. After being assured this was correct, they used it, I dove it and the differential is now toast.
The dealer has taken responsibility and is covering the cost of repalcement. I am still without a car for another week though. :(
Re: Differential failure due to wrong oil! (Trey395)
It started off as a rattle from the shifter, which got louder and LOUDER! It sounds like a metal rattle to start and turns in to a loud shreak. It was deafening inside the car and could also be heard very loudly outside the car.
Apparently, Synchromesh is only for the transmission, not the differential. You need a 90wt oil with positrac additive inthe rear.
I learnt this the hard way

Just to update. Cartek is overnighting the parts to the dealer. they will get on fixing ht issue right away and will have the car for me early next week. It's nice to find a dealer who will stand behind their actions, even when it costs them over $600 and 2 days of labor. :yesnod:
