The dealer supposedly had my transmission fixed when it was popping out of second gear a month ago. Now I get it back and it is still popping out of gear and frankly seems like they just changed the tranny fluid and never rebuilt anything. Is it normal for it pop out of 2nd gear? It doesn't grind at all, but its definately a bit of a chore to pull it in to second and if I'm not conciously thinking about it, usually it will end up popping out. The other gears don't slip in too nicely either, but I haven't had any pop out yet.
nobody has any ideas on this? I really don't think its right the way its working now, but have nothing to go to the dealer with. I know I'll never be drag racing the car in this condition as it takes like 3 seconds between shifts if I don't want it popping out.
Sounds like worn slider engagement teeth. These teeth as well as the engagement teeth on the actual gear are back cut to keep them engaged under acceleration/deacceleration and when they wear they will pop out of gear. Some shops have been known to replace the blocking rings(synchronizers) but skimp on the expensive pieces like the sliders and gears. :banghead:
hmm, maybe I should talk to them about that because its not popping out of gear so much anymore, but definately is not going into gear like it should be, is there anyone around the broward county area with a 6 speed that would mind test driving my car and letting me know if this is normal?
