Default Woot! Gears in... new question though.

Well, I just received my 3.73's, hurray! I'm planning on having them installed by a friend of my normal mechanic. Problem is though, he doesn't have a way to change any setting's on my C5 Computer.

What can I expect changing the gears out without reprogramming my 'Vette? Is it going to cause any damage, or just not change gears at an optimal RPM, or something completely different?

Also, if damage is potential, any suggestion on a reprogrammer to buy before I bring the car in?

Thanks in advance. :D

your profile doesn't mention if your Vette is an automatic or manual shift.

If it's the 6 speed manual... you don't need to do any reprogramming changes.

I know Mike Mercury went from 3.15 to 3.42 without programming. I went from 2.73 to 3.42 and needed programming. Maybe only God knows what you need. You'll get the 1870 code if you do need programming. Enjoy it.

I went from 3.15 to 3.73 gears and I used the predator to change my ratio in the pcm.If you you do not change it you will hit the rev limiter on wot shifts.I had no problem driving the car befor I changed the pcm.Your p/t shifts won't be optimum but you will be able to drive the car. Just stay away from wot shifts. You will eventualy get the codes but they will go away once you do the programing. My point is you do not have to do the programing the same day that you do the gear change.
