Default Gear questions

I have an '02 Coupe MN6 with LGM headers, Stage II heads, G5 cam and Blackwing. With this combination, the engine just doesn't sound comfortable going 70 or even 75 MPH in 6th gear. It sounds and feels much better at about 85 to 90 at about 2000 rpm. I have 3.42's now and am wondering what if any effect changing to 3.73's or 3.90's would have on this problem.
Also, what perfomance changes would I notice and MPG effect.

Thanks for the replies.

Go 4.10's- I have heard nothing but praise from guys with the 4.10's. DynoTech is doing a group purchase for the gear of your choice. Check their post in this section. You send them your rear end and they swap the gears for $750 plus shipping. We need 15 people by June 30th. I'm on the list- :D
Check the post for all the details. SCOTT

I just had Dyno-Tech install 4.10's in my 2000 m6. You absolutely won't believe what it does for the car. Should have been the factory gear....3.43's at 60 was 1300rpm.......4.10's at 60 is 1600rpm in 6th gear....80=2100rpm..No big deal with the six speed, like it use to be with the old 4 speeds...........

you 6 speed guyz with two overdrive gears, certainly have it better when selecting a different rear axle ratio than us A4 owners do.
