Re: A/c problems w/98 vette (J's 1998 Pace Car)
Alright now! I just replaced the plastic vacuum lines with rubber ones and bought a new check valve because it was split into. I put all of this back together and i still have the same problem. On the reservoire where the vacuum lines go there are two inlets. One is where the vacuum lines ties into the check valve and it goes into one inlet. Is the other one just there for nothing because i don't see anything that supposed to go to it. This is starting to be a PAIN!!!
Not sure which line (if any) goes there. You may need to eyeball another Vette to get the proper hose hookup or if all else fails take it to the dealer and tell them what you're trying to accomplish. I'm sure their tech will be able to ensure you have all the line hooked up correctly. BTW, I see you said you replaced all the plastic line with rubber ones. I hope they're not the 5/32" as you may wind up with a few small vacuum leaks since it may not be able to seal on the 1/8" plastic lines.
BTW, it sure wouldn't hurt to mix up a couple of bowls full of a baking soda/water mix and pour all around in that entire area. Don't worry about the water hurting anything as all the connectors are of the weatherpack design. What you're trying to get at is any residual acid residue that gets into all the little nooks and crannies and comes back to haunt you over time. I used two plastic bowls full of water/baking soda mix in mine, followed awhile later by just plain water.

where about is the line behind the intake. I looked but all i seeis a pcv line that goes back there and a line from the manifold and they both connect into a dual metal piece.

Re: A/c problems w/98 vette (Evil-Twin)
I can hear a little bit of a hiss but i don't see the vacuum line . Maybe it's off and i just can't see it. A Detailed explanation of where exactly it is behind the intake might help. I have reached around the back of the intake on the passenger side and i don't feel anything. About how big is this line? Thanks for y'all trying to solve this probably simple problem.
LoneStarFRC,
You may have saved me some $$ at the dealer. I had my battery leak and I have about a 8 inch section of the hose that rotted off and the elbow with the broken connector still lodged inside. I am assuming I will need to replace all of these parts.
Does anyone have the part # for the reservoire and hose?
To get to this part, I need to access it from under the car?

Can't help you with part #'s but yes, the best thing is to replace any damaged items. Some auto parts stores may carry the small black nylon vacuum line by itself. Then all you have to do is follow the old hose back up to a good section, cut it (preferrably with a razor blade or exacto knife to prevent crushing it), use a piece of 1/8" ID rubber hose to splice in the new nylon line.
After jacking up, remove your R/F wheel and remove the small access panel at the rear of the wheel well. It's held on by about 8 or ten small screws (7mm as I recall) You'll need a good flashlight or drop light since it's kinda dark in there but you'll see everything pretty well.
Can I also see the heater core under there? I have a small coolant leak and I believe it is up in that area also so figure it must be around the heater.
I had a simular problem with my 97. It would only blow through the defroster vent no matter which mode I set it too. I took it to the dealer and they ripped the dash out trying to find the problem. After hours of work (and lots of my dollars) they found that a vaccum hose had been eaten by battery acid. This is where my problems started. It was even just a few months after changingthe battery. I totally reccomend that oyu get in there and check for battery acid. clean everything! the PCM is directly under the battery and if acid eats that, it costs about $1500 to fix. I had that happen. It can get worse and more costly from there if the wiring harness gets eaten by the acid as well. I am not sure where the vaccum hoses are at, but I would definately do some checking if I were you. Better to check that to have costly repairs like I went through. Good luck!

 No unfortunately you can't get at the heater core from the area I'm speaking of. That unpleasant task can only be accomplished by pulling the HVAC unit from behind the dash.
No difinitive answer because it can be several different things.
You got to really dig into it, take stuff apart, research, troubleshoot and otherwise be relentless in attempts to resolve these issues.
They can be complicated.
Bring it over, I'll help you! :smash:

Re: A/c problems w/98 vette (LoneStarFRC)
Hey everyone. It's me again. Just SOLVED my problem :smash: It was a hole (well about 6) where evidently battery acid had ate through it at one spot and had ran down through the hose up towards the intake where i struggled and found my last hole(about an inch - inch and a half long) It was in the wiring harness right there almost behind the engine. In just the right spot to get a headache over. A guy i know ran a leak detection test and i guess because it was in the wiring harness we did not see the smoke. But we narrowed it down to the vacuum lines underneath the battery after we applied vacuum through the line going to the vents to see if it would switch the different ducts open when you press the mode button and it would. So I am now very :) I just want to tell you all thanks for all the help , because I would have not known where to start without your replies.
Funny just finished repairing the same problem. 6 holes in the vacuum tubing under a battery that leaked acid. Had to change everything form the check valve (included) to where the vacuum lines went into the 2 different sets of wire harnesses. Also had to repaint part of the frame rail. Some acid got on the PCM case but did not get into the PCM (thank god). Called GM and GMPP they said that they will not cover any of the parts or the labor because it was battery leakage and not a malfuction-- Hey thanks for nothing :cuss . glad it worked out for you and me as well
