Anybody here using 4.10's? Pros? Cons?
Well, I guess it was inevitable that I could escape from a case of Mod Fever for only so long... :lolg:
So, I'm wondering if anybody here has gone to 4.10's. I am currently running 3.73's and they seem to be a great gear for street and strip use.
I want lower e.t.'s...what a shock! How much gain in e.t. might I get with the 4.10's?
Are the 4.10's that much better? Anybody here do the 4.10's and go back? Anybody stay with them? Please enable...uh, I mean help...help a fellow ModAholic with this decision. :D
And the sickness continues...paging Brother MTI 427...paging Brother Vstella...Brother Gary needs your help!

Forum member "98RedC5" was running 4.10s in his A4 and wanted to swap them for 3.42s or 3.73s. "Redgar" is also running 4.10s, he would also be a good person to advise you on the pros and cons of 4.10 gears in an A4. :yesnod:

Gary, good to see you are "coming around" with the thought of the 4.10's. If you do a lot, and I do mean a lot, of long distance driving then the 4.10's in an A4 may not be a great idea. However, with the 4.10's in my car I have no problems with trips of 500 miles or less. I am planning on driving from NJ to FL and I hope that this trip will be as uneventful as all the others. I know that Redgar drove to FL for the Corvette Challenge and had no problems with the gears, however his encounter with standing & puddled water was not as good. As far as racing, boy will you love them !! :yesnod: :D Just keep in mind you must co-ordinate the entire package to get the best from them...but I know I don't have to tell you that. Using my 26" ET Streets and the 4.10's I clear the lights at 6700-6800 RPM and drive at 2400 RPM @ 70 mph on the highway. Will this information help you decide....I hope so.

Re: Anybody here using 4.10's? Pros? Cons? (Red98C5)
Mitch and Dennis - hmmm...well, I really don't do much in the way of any long distance driving so that is a big plus. Most I have driven from home is about 350 miles.
Currently I am getting through the traps at around 5300 rpm so I know there's lots more I can do in terms of gearing. I just want to make sure I am not going through the traps in 4th. gear.
She currently shifts at about 6400 rpm and I think that the rev limiter is set somewhere around 66-6700.

BROTHER GARY,
Do the 4.10s brother as that should shave another tenth or two off your ets and will really accelerate nice and hard for you brother. I have the 4.10s in my new Z06 and LOVE THEM!
Like Dennis (Red 98C5) said, your biggest issue will be determining that you are still good going throught the traps in 3rd gear and as Dennis said, he clear the traps around 6700 to 6800 rpm with his et streets, so just make sure your rev limiter is set at least at 6800 (would go 6900 myself) and LET HER RIP BABY!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, if you end up going with the taller 28 inch hoosiers which you may need since you will be launching so hard with the 4.10s and your conveter, the taller tire will kill a small bit of your gear and you should be perfect going through the traps.
TOM HALL also has 4.10s on his ARE 422 A4 car and LOVES THEM so i think its a no brainer here brother, especially since you are not taking long road trips and your car is all about straight line acceleration.
BEST OF LUCK!
