Default Full-time DR's? what about sudden rainstorms?

Hey all,

Trying to make a final decision whether to run DR's fulltime or not. Anyone have any experience running DR's in wet conditions?

I really don't drive except on nice days, but it's impossible to avoid sudden thunderstorms 100% of the time, so I'd like to know more about this.

Glenn

DRLs make the vehicle more visible. It stands to reason that on cloudy days, rainy days, twilight, and at dawn if one's headlights or fog lights aren't on that DRLs would be of benefit.

What mores is there to say.

If your DRLs are off and you wish to increase the car's visibility , you need to turn on some other lights. :leaving:

I think there is some confusion.

I am talking about Drag Radials.

Once drag radials wear down they become slicks, not good for rain!

Don't they have a very soft sidewall? I would think that would take away fron the suspension.

Nitto drag radials aren't bad in the rain as long as they aren't down to the wear indicators yet. BFG's are not recommended for the rain at all.

My DRs were on the car all the time until I started using ET streets, driving in the snow was a little tricky but the rain wasn't bad at all. I was on 315-35-17 BFGs.

If you light them up, they smell and generate smoke, then they certainly increase visibility. :D

Well, I think there may be some handling issues with DR's, but as for rain - heck, the Z06 tires suck in the rain. Just slow down. Way down if you have to, and then you should be fine.

I ran Nittos as a daily driver on my Buick GS, they were better in the wet than the oem tires.

I was thinking about DRs as everday tires until last Saturday, when I took the car for its maiden blast through the North Georgia mountain twisties. Too much fun pulling lateral Gs to go to soft semi slicks. There was a lot of wheelspin exiting corners, but controllable with some throttle restraint.

Life is a symphony of compromises.

Yea Marco, you're smart forgetting about drag radials with the way you
drive.

But, for everyone else, if you just use your head, and slow down in the
rain, it's no big deal.
