Sorry, female with a vette here. Could anyone please give me some recommendations on a good deep growling exhaust with a good amount of hp gain? I'm not really into the "Indy Car" sound. Thanks.

Re: Advice on Exhaust Please (vixenc)
Just so you know, a cat-back aftermarket exhaust alone won't boost your HP very much (maybe a couple HP.)
The Corsa Touring exhaust is the quietest (at low RPM.)
I have the Corsa Indy exhaust (a bit louder.)
The Borla Stinger exhaust is louder yet. Some people have resonsance problems.
The Z06 stock exhaust is a popular choice lately for LS1 C5's.
Thanks, on the Corsa Indy - is it more of an "Indy" sound or more of a growl? Have you had any resonance problems at all? Sorry all the questions, but I want to get this right the first time.
No cat back will give "good" HP gain with a stock car. If you are adding headers, test pipes or high flow cats and THEN a catback then you might see a difference.
As far as sound.. Borla Stingers,GHL and Magnaflow seem to give the best low growl with GHL probably being the most "true" muscle car sound. Hope this helps.
OK, HP gain aside, have you heard anything about resonance problems with the Borla Stingers,GHL or Magnaflow? Also, will there be any problems with doing the exhaust first & then headers, etc?
I have the corsa pace. no resonance at all at any cruise speed but sounds great when you get on it. With that exhaust and a twin flo air intake my otherwise stock 99 convertible 6-speed has 319 rear wheel hp.probably 10-20 more than bone stock.

I have the Corsa touring. Loud when you step on it but very quiet at cruise. One of the better ones at getting rid of the resonance.
I'll second the notion that you will not see any signficant hp increase from a cat-back exhaust. You'll need to look at headers also to accomplish that.
Do a search for "drone" here on the forum. A lot of the exhausts have it and it usually isn't pleasant. Shop carefully.

Despite the name, the Corsa Indy (aka Pace Car Exhaust) does not make the car sound like an Indy car. It is a louder, more aggressive version of the Touring exhaust. It's been a year or so since I've researched exhausts but I do love my Corsa Indy's (been on my '02 vert for over a year now.) No resonance problems at all, the pro tips look great, and I've been very pleased with it. You really don't notice it until you hit around 2500 RPM, when it begins to really wake up. This exhaust (or very similar) was the stock exhaust that was put on the '98 Corvette Indy Pace Car (hence the name) and, other than the Z06 exhaust, is like having a high performance yet stock exhaust on your vette. Something I kind of liked. :)
Thanks, I might take you up on that. Where in Orlando? I am in Maitland. SR434 & Maitland Blvd. Do you ever go out to Bithlo on Wed nights, b/c I could come out there? Work email is cmincey@jrdavis.com or home is: bnc@cfl.rr.com.
I have the B&B Route 66 with the speedway tips. Nice mellow tone and great looks. I also live in Orlando in College Park right off of Edgewater Dr., not far from you. Let me know if you want to listen to it....John
I just now got my first listen at my Borla Stingers and the EXACT word I used was growl when my exhaust guy fired her up for me. 3000 RPM brought more of a roar and I can't wait to hear it when someone else drives it away from me under load at WOT...wel, someone I trust anyway. :nono:
Like most here, I was skeptical reagrding HP gains with exhaust mods.
I went with the Corsa Indys because it is the only system that has never had reports of resonance, as far as I recall. No, it doesn't sound like my "67 289 Mustang (Ford, sorry) or my '72 Big Block Chevelle, but it does roar at WOT!
After the exhaust install, I did a quick dyno run and discovered that I added 10 RWHP on my stock LS1 with only intake mods. Since my exhaust was bought for only sound and appearance, the HP increase was a pleasant surprise.
