I couldn't tell a difference when installing the shifter, so I loctited and adjusted them per the Hurst instructions. I realize they aren't needed, but don't see the reason for taking the stops out either.
Stops are not needed and could work there way off and jam. Just made sense to me not to install them. BTW I sent Hurst an e-mail and that was their reply.
I left mine in, I just installed them properly. :D (There really haven't been that many that came loose and the ones that did, the guys said never put lock tite on them.) I have had almost 1 1/2 years of serious banging shifts:steering: , no problems. :smash: :smash:
I Just installed my Hurst last week. Love the shifter and I installed it without the stops and put a rubber boot over it to help decrease noise. Now, I just need to get rid of the buzz sound at around 3.5K RPM and I will be a happy camper! :D

There have been lots of posts here regarding eliminating the vibration on the aftermarket poopieers. I have the Hurst, and personally I have never had a vibration problem. However, if you do it is a vibration frequency problem. Most here have changed shift ***** and eliminated the issue. If you like your current setup and dont want to change, try attaching wheel weights or some other relatively massive object to the shaft under the boot. That will alter the vibration characteristics of the shifter assembly in most cases and eliminate the noise.
Some may back me up on this issue - If not, do a search.
Yes believe me I have read just about all the threads on both sites. I'm currently using a MGW shifter **** and last night I installed the wheel weights. The weights helped a little but I'm still getting the buzz at around 3K Rpm. Note: this is a buzz noise, and not some vibration that I can physically feel.
Darn, I guess I will have to get the Borla Stingers  to really cover up the noise!! :D :D
I took my stops out last night. Mine rattled too much for me. I like the shift, but not the noise. After I took the stops out, I went for a spin with no shift **** on. It seemed that the noise was down about 85% - 90%. Maybe it's in my head, but the shifter seems a little better, more loose. Reverse seems easier. I reattached the shift **** (factory) and got it super tight with teflon tape on the threads. It's much quieter, but did add some of the rattle back in. I have a **** on order. :-( Now if the dang thing will just ever get here.....
alot vibe problems are related because of play between the threads of the shifter& ****,try wrappin teflon tape around the shifter threads to get rid of the loose fit that should take care of it ,had my hurst w/ stops on for a month& no problems :chevy
