I got a K&N for my 2003, part# 33-2111. It comes with a foam rubber gasket. The instructions for the Corvette say it's for a 97. It says to remove part of the airbox cover and stick this foam gasket in it. My 03 has the Z06 airbox. It looks nothing like the photo in the K&N instructions. The filter appeared to be a perfect swap for my oem. So that is what I did. Just installed it in place of the oem. Didn't use the foam gasket.
Is this correct? Don't want to drive around like this if it is possible that it is wrong and crap can get in the motor.
Re: Installing K&N replacement filter in a 2003 (BQuicksilver)
I had the same experience. I used the gasket and it seemed to promote a very tight fit. If I recall, the K&N factory replacement is not dimentionally identical to the OEM and the gasket IS required. Why else would they include it with the filter?
After a while, you will likely trash the stock intake altogether and go with a Blackwing or a Vortex, etc, etc, etc. I think I had the K&N on my 2002 for about ten days before I got the Blackwing.
