I have TPIS headers and the Random Tech high flow CAT/x-pipe combo. I love it. I went to these from being catless. I HATED IT!!!!!!!!! The RT CATs completely took away the smell. High quality pieces too :D
Thanks. I may cut out my cats for a 400 HP dyno run :D then put the Random setup on. Years ago, I went w/o cats on my Mustang for 6 months and the smell along with the noise was too much for me.
I totally agree with Buckmaster.. I am using the Stainless Works headers and 3" center section and originally did not use the cats. I couldn't stand to drive the car. It was too loud and the gas smell made me sick!! I put the R/T cats on and the car and it is a pleasure to drive again. The gas smell is totally gone and the car is much quieter. Highly Recommended!!!
Timely post, I just received my WCC catalog and saw them listed for less tha $300 (not sure but that must be each). How will they help a car with OEM manifolds, X-pipe and Corsa Indy's?
Could I expect any HP gain and or exhaust tone? I have buddies with gutted cats and when driving behind them you can smell their exhaust. Not very enviromentally firendly.
Looking forward to responses as I'm ready to spring for these.
It is hard to give you an exact figure on how much quieter the car is with the R/T but I would have to say at least 30-40 percent quieter. To be perfectly honest, the added noise of running the car without cats wasn't the major problem, it was that fuel smell I would get when stopped at a light or slowly moving. As soon as I installed the cats, all of my issues were solved and the car still makes excellent power compared to when I didn't have the headers/3" section on. Click below on the graph and you will see the before and after figures.
As far as how much more power I would have gained by NOT having the cats, it really doesn't matter to me as what good is the extra power when you hate to drive the car?
I am ready to do the stainless works headers and was going to go catless but Now i have changed my mind .
Wonder if any one has used the Xtreme flow cat's I am thinking of installing them?
Part number is XF607

I also debated cats/no cats. I've decided to go with the R/T's and will be installed by Stainless Works with their headers and center section within a couple weeks...
I believe horsepower gains over the stock cats are minimal, but the fumes and soot over the back would be unacceptable in my vert...
So what's the bottom line. Should I consider replacing my OEM cats with R/T's? I'm looking to gain a few HP and a little more exhaust note. Is it worth the $500 or not?

Nope. I wouldn't hold out hope for HP gains.

Tom, I wouldn't waste my time/money with just replacing the OEM cats with the R/T as I don't think you will gain very much.
If you were going to put some LT headers in, well that's a different situation and in that case, I would definately say yes. Otherwise I believe the performance/sound difference would be minimal at best..
