Whining from rear when cold???

Whining from rear when cold???
Next-door neighbor just picked up a black on black 97 coupe, automatic with 38,000 miles. He just let me take it for a drive (10 minuets). There is a whining sound that seems to be coming from the left rear area. He says it will go away after driving awhile. It is a constant sound that is not related to speed, but it does change pitch when the break is applied. I have been telling him how great Corvette Forum is; now I would like to show him. Any ideas what he should look for?

Four hours and all I get is a comedian. :lol: My neighbor will be impressed with all the C5 knowledge to be had on this forum. :skep: Really could use some advice, anybody have any ideas?.............. :D

In the past I have ask similar questions in the C4 section and got a lot of feedback. Did I ask a tough question or is there a general lack of knowledge for the C5’s??????
