Default Exhaust question ?

New 2002 C5 vert owner asking opinions for exhaust system. Car is currently bone stock. I am considering Bassani cross-overs with Borla Stingers. I'm interested in performance, but don't intend to race my car so I'm more interested in a "deep throaty roar" and not something that sounds like a wound out "ricer" from Fast & Furious. Also want to know what headers to run ? Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

1st welcome to the family....2nd there is no way a vette can sound like a rice crap...3rd exhaust alone would not add any rwhp i do not even this the X- pipe can either.....if you looking for a good sound then the list is endless everyone thinks differently, so you well have to listen and choose on your own....4th i think it would be better for you to get a complete system like the FLP or GL that way you get a good set of headers and x-pipe together .....and you should pick up 10-20 rwhp with the headers ....good luck

I know for a fact the Borla Stinger will add 5-12RWHP & no interior resonance but sounds deep & throaty on the exterior. The WOT is a great sound but not obnoxious. The Pro LGM LT Header system will add 25-35RWHP. Call Lou at LGM for details.

As always,

I'm not prepared to get into yet another exhaust debate. HOWEVER - If interior resonance is important - Corsa (my system) is the only option. If you want a "throw-back" sound (like I wish for sometimes - a throaty rumble from the '60s and '70s) then go for the Borlas, GHLs etc.

I admit that5 I sometimes miss the old hot-rod sound. But I'll accept the exotic sound of my Corsas if it means passing on the resonance.

Shrek58: I just installed a GHL exhaust system on our 2002 C-5. I went with the GHL system because of the nice deep sound at wide throttle and nice rumble at idle and no ressonance. I ordered my system from Shawn at L.A.P.D who is a supporting vendor. Good luck with your exhaust mods.

From my reading, I'd recommend Magnaflow with some long tube headers. I don't feel confident enough to recommend headers.

I like the sound of the Borla XR-1 exhaust with a the X-pipe. Take a look at this poll I had on headers the LG was the number one choice

I just installed Borla Stinger Quad tips, TPIS LT's and Random Tech Hi flows with the x-pipe last weekend. All I can say is man what a difference in sound and SOTP feel. I will have some dyno time next week to see the HP increase but I can feel a major differece. The sound is not anymore than I expected at cruise and at WOT is awesome. Hope this helps......

I am pretty new to the Corvette scene myself. At first I was going to go with the Corsa Pace Car exhaust but since have decided to go with the GHL exhaust.

There is a GP on the GHL coming up sometime within our life time maybe you can jump in then like a bunch of us!

Magnaflow will match the sound you have on your Stang. They sound like the Borla Stinger only quieter if you go without the X-pipe. Quiter still are the Z06's which I have.

Happy 4th and Welcome Aboard!

I really like the stock Z06 Titanium exhaust which alsois approx. 40% lighter.
But the only article that I have read with actual dyno results of HP gains is on the magnaflow system. Vette magazine has an article on magnaflow and the x pipe. go online to http://www.vetteweb.com and check out "the X files". Ink is better than a bunch of opinons.

I suggest you look in the TX section on this site and start attending some of the get to gethers in your area. You'll get to hear them in person. Welcome to the site.

I like my route 66, they are not loud but i plan on removing my cats and adding headers. thats when you will get good power gains from you exhaust. the mefflers alone will only add about 10hp. Also i dont like X pipes, so im making a custom dual exhaust from the headers to the Route 66s, should make them consideralbly louder :steering:
