I finally made a decision to go w/ a Head & Cam package from Cartek after owning my C5 for over 4 years.
It's a 99 C5 Coupe w/ 44k miles
Mods include B&B PRT's, Donaldson Blackwing, 3.73 gears, Bassani X-pipe & NX wet kit
I've heard many good things from Cartek over the past few years & I just made an appointment to do the install in August.
Well, now it's time to decide on which package to get.
Do, I go w/ the
A) LS-6 - STAGE 2-X HEADS & buy LS6 Heads & LS6 Intake manifold
B) LS1 - STAGE 2-X HEADS w/ LS1 Heads & buy LS6 Intake manifold
Is the hp difference worth purchasing new LS6 heads? What's the going rate for a pair of used LS1 Heads?
All it takes is money. How much are you willing to spend? I say go with the cheaper LS1 kit and save the rest for a forged bottom end, supercharger, turbo, or N20.
I can only say that CARTEK kicks A.., if I could have fit into my budget I would have gone with the LS6 heads but with everything else I just couldn't squeeze it. I can tell you just how the LS1 package acts with a 100 shot on it as that's what I have and my dyno numbers are in my sig. Next year when I get my bonus I'm going for the forged bottom end stroker if I can sell enough merchandise this year anyways. Bob
C5 YA you are in tewksburry??? im in watertown. Im taking my 01 Z06 july 12 to Cartek for the stage 2x-rev LS6 pkg. If you want when my car is done on the 19th 1 week later we could go for a ride in it and see if you like the results. ANDY
What did Cartek say to do? Surely they can tell you the exact performance differences.
Check out MTI's website and comparison of their Stage 2 heads using LS1 vs Z06 head castings. The graphs show no real flow difference until above about .600 lift.
know you are not using these MTI heads, but it will give you some idea of the flow.
I'll take you up on that offer.
I'm penciled in 2 weeks after you. July 28 is when they are going to start on the upgrade. Some of my Supra friends have a meet @ Englishtown on July 16th & 17th. So, I am going to tag along w/ them to the meet and then drop off my car. Looks like they will be working on yours @ that time. Unless of course you want to switch install dates. :yesnod:
