Does anyone have the solution!!!! I have the Eradispeed Rotors with the Hawk pads and it's very embarassing stopping with my brakes squeeling like hell. What is the best brake pad for street use and the Baer slotted drilled rotors? Thanks in advance for your input!
Yes, I did follow the break in proceedure and so did a few others I know who have the same problem, it seems that the Hawk pads are notorious for squeeling. The folks at Baer say that the stock pads will work good with there rotors for street use. I think I will try that.
I think it is the other way around. My stock Z pads used to squeel so much it was embarassing. I just switched to Haw pads about 2 weeks ago and they are dead silent. Maybe you have some deposits on your rotors. You should try hitting them with 130 grit like the Hawk instructions say and see if that helps.
Snake Slayer had the Hawks with DBA rotors and they squeeked like crazy. He ended up putting the stock rotors back on the rears and all is quiet again. I have seen several reports of this issue with the Hawks.
I am about to put the new Wilwood rotors and pads on my car. I pray for quiet operation.
I am running the Hawk street pads and Eradi's and they are silent. Which Hawk pads are you running? I ran the next most agressive, which are the plus'es and they did make some noise but not too bad! I then had a set of Performance Products 01s and I sounded like a city bus all the time. But without a 5 point harness I could throw ya through the windshield with my racing tires on!
If you are running any street or stock pad the best cure for the noise is to slide the caliper off, Wash every thing down to really clean, Use Brake Kleen, install NEW pad shields (on the bracket) and a NEW spring in the caliper. Do not use grease or pad quiet or any of that gummy stuff, or trick sh-- on the market. and put it back together. Then do a pad/rotor wear in process, and you should be quiet. If you are running a pad with any agression at all, it will make noise My performance pads squawked like a stuck pig on the street but never made a noise on the track under comp braking. I was more worried about being embarrased at the track, and could give a hogs breath about what anyone thought on the street. A guy at work said something about the noise and reference to junk once. I told him to get in sit down belt up, you can grab this, this and this, but not that. I took him for a ride and he never said another word, as a matter of fact he will probably never speak to me again! :jester And the brakes never made a sound! I don't think he was expecting that! I could hear his foot on the floor as we were entering some turns at a relatively competitive speed!
Yeah, when I run the Carbotech pads on the street they make a horrific noise. Whenever I would pull up to a stop everyone would look around like wtf? I sounded like a bus, and to make it worse it would squeel even when i was not applying the brakes. Thus, I have switched to using Hawk pads on the street and saving my track pads for the track.
Yeah I had the exact problem with my hawks...I tried to tell my self it was nothing... the pads are too hard.... atleast mine were... I went back to the stock breaks and all is quiet , cept now I have some groves on my eradispeeds...
I bought the street hawks several years ago here on the forum...with the eradispeeds... I was one of the very first people to get these rotors... anyway I did the break in and seasioning stuff to the letter.... they never stopped squealing.,...I put up with it for 6 weeks but that was enough,,,put back the stock pads and all is well
Oh! ouch, I forgot about the carbon from the Hawks! Absolutely rough up the rotors the Hawks are not compatable with the Stock pads! I think Eradi explains it on their red sheet that comes with th erotors!
Jer
Which Hawks did you order, there are three different types. Street, Plus, and comp.
Street no noise, above average stopping power, quiet
Plus, Good for Street and autocross, pretty good stopping power some noise but tolerable
Comp. noisy, and throw ya through the windshield laying on the hood stopping power. Sounds like a city bus.
Depends on what you want. I don't think you will ever get a totally quiet full comp pad, you will never use them hard enough or get the heat up high enough on the street to keep them quiet!
Can I use the stock pads with about 10K miles on them or should I buy new ones?? Also, would cleaning the rotors with Brake Cleaner be enough to remove the carbon??
from the sound of the description on the MTI web site...theyre the street version, but I honestly dont know. When I ordered the rotors, I simply asked which brake pads I should use for the street and they said the Hawks, so I added them to my order. I guess Ill call and find out tomorrow. Thanks for the help.
According to this highly regarded article you can have soft and quiet or hard and noisy. :skep: Sounds kinda like a dating service...:lolg:
Anyway, here is the link to an excellent read... http://www.stoptech.com/whitepapers/...otors_myth.htm

You need to sand the rotors with a light grit sand paper to remove the carbon... no big deal... when the carbon is off you will see the bright and shiney look of the Zinc coating again.. I never did like the look of the carbon build up on the eradispeeds... kinda like putting a Hefty bag over a chick in a Bikini. ;)

Thanks! What about using the original pads with about 10K miles on them?
