JUST ONE THING TO CHECK WHEN YOU ARE DONE INSTALLING YOUR NEW SHIFTER IS THAT THE FUEL CAP LATCH WORKS. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DISCONNECT IT, BUT MINE MUST HAVE CAME LOOSE WHILE MOVING THE CONSOLE. I GOT TO THE GAS STAION AND IT WOULDN'T POP. THERE'S A MANUAL PULL, (APPARENTLY, COULDN'T FIND MINE), BUT JUST CHECK IT SO YOU DON'T NEED TO UNBOLT THE COSOLE AGAIN. :troll
It's much more fun with european models as there's a two-way switch for both the fuel cap and boot release mechanisms. This is, of course, not mentioned in the Hurst instructions. The amount of slack in the wires is minimal which makes putting the connector back on that much more entertaining. Having seen nice little gotchas like this before I was smart enough to check I'd put it all back together again before going out in public ! :conehead So I can feel really smug about it now :D
There are manual releases for both fuel and boot. In my case if you look in the two small storage bins at the back of the car, on the driver's side you will find the fuel release and on the right the boot release. They are thin steel cables with no markings on that protrude from the carpet lining the back of the bins.
P.S. There's no need to shout ! Please turn off your CAPS LOCK !
