Took the air box on my '99 out to open it up somewhat. That part went fine. The clamps have never been very tight, but now they just won't stay latched, even with some pieces of hose placed under the staps. Seems like the straps can only go on one way. What have I done wrong?
Re: Help! Loose air filter clamps.... (Colorado Chuck)
Chuck, if you loosen up the hose clamp on the throttle body and push it on as far as you can and the clamp at the maf end and do the same, your problem will be fixed. It pushes on the air box when they are not on all the way causing it to pop up the retaining straps.
Re: Help! Loose air filter clamps.... (Colorado Chuck)
Colorado Chuck,
The air box clamps were loose on my 1999 C5 coupe (built 8/98) - the dealer replaced them under the new car warranty. The clamps can be purchased separately and are very easy to install.
The mechanic said that he had seen several 1999's in the shop with loose air box clamps and suspected there was a "batch" of ones that were not manufactured to specs.
Re: Help! Loose air filter clamps.... (1999 White C5 Coupe)
Thanks for the help, guys. 99 White C5 Coupe (which is exactly what I have!) was right. The spring steel straps are just too long. I tried cutting and rebending with moderate success, but instead of getting new ones I might just get rid of the whole air box and put on a Blackwing or one of the dual cone filter ones.
Thanks again.
