Default Excessive Tunnel Heat

After installing a Vortech supercharger and Bassani X-pipe, the tunnel/console seems excessively hot. The best solution I have found so far is the Corvette Tunnel Heat Shield by Thermo Tec(http://www.thermotec.com/products/full/16570/16570.html). Does anybody have any experience with this product? It is a little pricey but looks like it might do the job.

I would also like to hear any suggestions re tunnel heat. I have a 99 A4 and it can get pretty hot as well. Thanks.

The simple solution is to add some interior insulation around the console. http://mikemercury.home.att.net/sound.htm I and many other members have performed this mod for a reduction in sound and heat around the console. Its most likely not the best approach, but it will sure help for a cheap price.

I've done both the dynamat and the heat shield. The dynamat definitely cuts down the console heat - but it was the heat shield that totally eliminated it. It's not cheap - but it does work.

FYI - I don't think the heat shield covers enough surface area to do the whole job alone. You'll probably have to do both the shield and the dynamat to totally block the heat from the tunnel. (I did the dynamat first - so I'm not sure how well the heat shield works without it.) I think you could use whatever brand of sound/thermal proofing you want on the interior - there are many less expensive options to dynamat.

Not that I would ... but I'm certain I could put a snickers bar in the console without it melting now.

I have a heat shield and it works ok for heat spikes... but long term heat gets through after a while... try the AC adn dont press your leg against the tunnel. :p:

A good, relatively inexpensive fix is to insulate the floor and tunnel. I have used dynomat-like products and have added some extra felt in the "leg" area of the tunnel. Works great, but you do have to gut the interior. Not hard to do, if you take your time. :) :yesnod:

vetterdstr - I looked at the heat shield but that appears to only protect the horizontal surface of the tunnel (the top) and not the sides. If you look at the
Corvette Tunnel Heat Shield by Thermo Tec at http://www.thermotec.com/products/full/16570/16570.html it looks like it may protect the side of the tunnel. Do you think that might help with the long term heat?

DSTJ99 - I looked at the mikemercury solution and my do that for noise but I would like to try to deflect the heat before it warms the tunnel.

Still_Single - The Corvette Tunnel Heat Shield looks like it might address the Heat Shield's shortcomings.

Thanks for the help

Mine used to be HOT, but when the CATs went it cooled down a bunch :yesnod:

Here are some other options for heat insulation http://www.longacreracing.com/catalo...st.asp?catid=4

Here's is what I was thinking about insulating the tunnel with http://www.longacreracing.com/catalo...id=127&catid=4

That heat shield looks like it will work better than mine. :yesnod: Seems that the best protection is the shield underneath and also inside the car under the carpeting. :blueangel:
