502? Why go with just another "small block"? What about one of the new ZZ572 or ZZ620 engines?
620 HP @ 5500 RPM, 650 ft lbs @ 4500 RPM, 9.6:1 compression, 92 octane recommended. See page 47 of your 2003 GM Performance Parts catalog. :)
The ZZ502 is a big block. The two you mentioned are the next evolution of the ZZ502. I believe they used better parts on the top of the motor on both, the 572 is 10:1 on street gas and the 620 is 13.6:1 on race gas. I agree that I would probably go with an aluminum 429 small block first, but I would love to see how one of the big blocks work out if anyone does one!
If any of my numbers are off, anyone feel free to correct.
I wonder how much all aluminum big block weights. :) Probably not THAT much more than an LS1. I know Danovan makes aluminum blocks for BBC.
Also I don’t see a reason to make it a 502ci If you’re putting a big block might as well punch out to like 540ci :D
I know street 540ci BBC can put out 700-800HP on pump gas and everything w/o braking a sweat.
Still, to shoehorn one into C5 most likely a ridiculous project  and I doubt it’s worth it.
If GM only made a factory fit Ls1 style big block  …..we can always dream…..
