happened to try my e-brake with car in neutral today on the steep driveway. USELESS!!! :mad
never used it before, but now that i know it doesn't work, it's not confidence-inspiring..
isn't there a way to automatically adjust it? i remember reading about it somewhere on the forum way back when, something like pulling up the lever all the way 3 times, or some other voodoo.
Re: e-brake...a joke, or can it be adjusted? (SLO VETTE)
you can adjust the cable tension by pulling up on the handle repetively (sp?)
You can adjust the mechanical by pulling the rear disc off
and yes , it will still be a joke :mad

I don't ever refer to the c-5 hand brake as an "E" Brake....somehow I do not see a GVW of 3400-3500 lbs stopping with those tiny shoes!!
However it can be adjuster rather well to the point where it can lock up the rears in a slow roll. I usually clean the rust ridge on a brake lathe first, helps you get a tighter adjustment :smash:

You can try that but if it's too far out of adjustment, you'll need to pull the rear wheels and do it manually. Below is a pic of mine taken while I was putting the Eradispeeds on. The star gear adjuster is located at the 3 o'clock position. Turn the gear to adjust the shoes inward or outward.

The only time my parking brake is ever used, is when it is tested for the state inspection.
me too..........and I failed because mine didn't work well enough. The guy says it has to hold under "throttle". How much he couldn't say. My argument was that this thing makes 300 ft.lbs. right off idle and that little bitty parking brake doesn't stand a chance.
So I went to a parking lot and did some e-brake stops in reverse to tension the pads up. This helped some, but not enough. One wheel can now be locked up, the other needs to be adjusted by hand with the wheel off.
So I went back and ever so delicately feathered it to 1200 rpm's and it BARELY held, so he passed me.

Mine didnt work properly when I bought my car 4 years ago.... I fixed it myself 4 years ago one time... I can stop my car doing 30 mph using only the e brake... the system is fine... it just needed to be adjusted.... mine was out 44 clicks of that star adjuster..... fix it once and forgetaboutit........................... ......................

Manually adjust as people have stated.
To further adjust in the future as it wears, while rolling backwards sharply ****** the brake handle up 2-3 times. The adjusters work like drum style brakes.
When adjusted properly mine has worked quite well. It's purpose is really more of a parking brake. With an M6 that's important as manual trannies have no park tab.

The trick is to remove the rotor and cut the lip off the rotor on a brake lathe (simular to resurfacing a brake drum)...If this is not done, proper lining to rotor clearance can not be acheived
