I own a 2000 C5 Convertible.
For some unknown reason, the ext. temp. display at times gives a false reading.
Example; The outside air temp is 95 F. On the dash I get a false reading of 31F. Because of this false reading it seems like the onboard system is telling me the outside air temp is 31F so I don't need the AC. Then, for no reason the climate control display will show a rise in temp. until it hits the proper outside temp, then the air kicks in.
Before I take the car to my local dealer for repairs, I'd like to know if this is a sensor, or an AC module problem.
It is the external sensor which is located on the passenger side under the nose in the opening to the radiator/condensor. Look for a small tube sticking out from a slot on the side of the shroud. If you car is under warranty then have the dealer fix it. Make sure they replace the sensor and the connector. If they don't the problem will return quickly.
If not then replace the sensor and the wiring harness connector as both with be corroded and then shrink rap the splice and connection. The sensor is like $9 and the connector like $25.
