Caliper swap questions...
I bought a used set of calipers, which I'll be painting with the G2 red paint and had some questions about the caliper swap... I've removed the calipers before when I replaced my rotors but I don't have experience in disconnecting the brake lines... I’ll also be bleeding the fluid to use ATE Blue.
The GM manual says to Remove the inlet fitting bolt, inlet fitting, and two gaskets. Discard the two gaskets, and plug the openings in the brake caliper and the inlet fitting.
Do I really have to replace the two gaskets? Can't I reuse them? And what do I plug the caliper and inlet fitting with and why? Since I'm replacing them, shouldn’t I want to release all the fluid once the inlet is removed? Should I be clamping off the hoses? Hmmm… I’m wondering if this would work…? Before removing the inlet, clamp of the hose and loosen the bleed screw and release the fluid until it stops. Then remove the inlet and the other caliper bolts.
Appreciate any help, tips or tricks…

2 - No, not if you don't want any problems afterwards.
3 - Usually you would plug both ends with plastics caps made for such things, as you won't have these, just do the caliper swap right away, start and finish 1 side befor moving to the other.
4 - I can't say for sure, but if were me, I'd do the job trying not to loose too much fluid and then after you can do a bleed procedure to flush out the old fluid and replace it with the new stuff.
5 - Certainly NOT, these are not regular rubber hoses, they are designed for high pressure applications, clamping them will damage them and cause you a failure that you don't ever want to have.
Good Luck! :)

I used to work with a fellow who would top off his brake fluid at least twice a week. He was a good guy, I miss working with him.
