Default Update on power window problems

Follow up info.

I have been out on business so I couldn’t get to the window for a while. Here is where I stand and what I have done.

Slamming, tapping, pleading, swearing, etc has not worked so I went and removed the door panel per the great instructions on the web (posted earlier). With the panel removed I could tap directly on the motor/regulator, but still no luck.

With the panel removed I am also able to grab the motor with my hand and it feels hot, which leads me to believe there is current going to it (be very careful if you put your hand in the door as the window could suddenly go down).

Next step, I removed the motor/regulator, using the instructions in section #8 of the 3-volume manual, which are very good and detailed. My biggest concern is with removing the window and not knowing if I will be able to align it back properly.

With the motor/regulator out I rigged up two wires with a bulb (I don’t have a voltmeter handy at home). I connected the wires to the motor/regulator plug, which is now hanging loose and operated the pushbutton in both up and down positions. THE BULB LIGHTS UP, so there is current going to the motor. Next I connected a 12-volt power source directly to the plug on the motor/regulator. NO DICE. I can some arcing when making the wire connection but the motor does not budge. This pretty much isolates the motor/regulator as being NFG.

Ordered a new motor/regulator through my Brother (who gets a 25% shop discount) and will install next week when I get back home from another business trip. I’ll let you guys know how it goes.

All in all, not that big of a job so far, but I still have the install left not to mention the window adjustment to deal with.

Thanks for the follow up.
After you get the new motor installed, if possible could you open the gear unit of the assembly and inspect to see if the gear is broken?
This would possibly be a big benefit to others. If the gear(s) is bad maybe it could be repaired much like the headlight gearmotor assembly rather than replacing the entire unit.

Let us know what you find.

I did try to separate the two by removing the 4 screws from the motor. I could pull the motor out about 1/4" but it feels like a spring is pulling it back. Probably some spring loaded gears.

I did not want to pull too hard and possibly destroy the unit until I get the new assembly in case I should need any reference dimension, etc.

It does not appear that any gears are broken, but rather the motor simply will not turn. It could be a possibility that a gear jammed. Hope to have it installed next week.

Probably a stupid question but you were holding down the window down button as you banged on the motor weren't you? This has worked for me every time (5-8 times) You don't want to break anything but i tap pretty hard w/ something substantial like vice grips or a rachet.

Not a stupid question at all. I have tried using a few different "Tools" to persuade the motor with no luck. I just hope the new motor/regulator will last and not fall victim to the same problems.
