Took my 2k coupe out the other day with more than 1/4 tank showing the fuel guage. After about 2 miles I hear the idiot bell and the HUD tells me to check guages. Low fuel! Guage is on Elvis. I know the LS1 can burn some fuel but not more than 5 gallons in 2 miles. Went to the fuel store and filled up. Now the guage is functioning normally (for now). I'm guessing when the fuel level passes 1/2 tank the same thing is going to happen again. Is this a common problem? Is the fuel sending unit the problem and is it difficult/expensive to repair? I just emerged from battery acid hell (thanks to you guys) and now this. Of course my warranty expired 3 weeks ago. :nopity
Update. Called Chevy dealer in Lexington, KY. Said, in the first place, service bullitens are not for me to know about, just the service techs  And also SHE knows of no such bulletin and w/o even looking my car the she knows the sending unit must be replaced. puleeeze.
My C5 did the exact same thing with 1/4 tank last Tuesday. I filled it back up with 15 gals of 93 octane (so the 1/4 was ok, E was way wrong).
We arew not alone. The problem has a TSB that may cover your car, even out of warranty. Check with Mr. Goodwench. If I remember, I will ask him today when I visit.

Re: Fuelish Guage (chuck1026)
Same thing just happened to me last night on my 2000. I filled it up and now it is working, I have a feeling it is the fuel sending unit that will need replacing. :mad
Just wondering, did you guys give it lots of time to read? I have filled up completely before, and the next time i drive the car i get a check gauges low fuel. If I wait about 5-10mins it will eventually begin to slowly swing towards full.
I just got back from Mr. Goodwrench... there is a bulletin for the fuel guage... see below (and good luck!).

Erratic Fuel Guage Reading (Reprogram the PCM) #02-06-04-010A (6/27/2003)
1999-2002 Chevrolet Corvette
This replaces TSB 02-06-04-010...
Condition: Some owners may comment about the fuel guage intermittently indicating an empty reading and then return to the correct fuel position.
Cause: This condition may result when fuel blends containing aggressive sulphur compounds react with the fuel sender assembly, which may result in voltage spikes being introduced on the fuel level signal to the PCM. Use of another may reverse this reaction and return the system to normal operation.
Correction: Reprogram the PCM with the new service calibration which is available in the June 2003 Techline TIS release sent to the dealers on 6/28/03. Use the TIS Version 7 or later data update.
