This was an isolated scenario at least with my vette. I was at a Dyno get-together and was recommended to get a C5 Power Plate .
Anyone heard of this Mod ?
Anyhow....it was guarenteed to add 7-8 hp to my numbers.
The result ??? ....I'll be sure to post actual graphs later :
Base Dyno before : 291 hp
Dyno test after plate : 314 hp !!!
My hunch is that the biggest improvements with this "black magick" part is with the '97-'99 vettes before the intake re-design. The part installs in front of the intake air inlet just behind the MAF. I was told it lengthens the plenum and helps airflow. IT definitely did that !!!
Oh, and I can't remember the torque #'s but it added about 20+ on that, too !
I agree, but I have seen this now on at least four cars in the DFW area. The tuner himself is skeptical and not even going to advertise its existence. Seems like voodoo, but it certainly works on stock C5's.
And, if it doesn't work, you pull it off and hand it back to him. So far, no stock C5's have taken this back off once installed and dyno'd (that I'm aware of).
Ok,what is it ,how much does it cost AND is there any brochure on this item? That's a lot of horsepower for a bolt on mod.I am skeptical on this. :chevy :chevy :flag :chevy :chevy
Re: C5 Power Plate : added 20+ HP !!! (C5 StockSwap)

That's why I did it in the first place..... 21st Century Muscle Cars (Lingenfelter Shop in Carrolton, TX) has 'em for $119 and $159 installed.
It's not coming off my vette after seeing the Dyno !
Also, my vette, being an A4 was always a little uneven on hard accelerations - after the plate I've noticed a smoother acceleration with increased power from 3-4000 rpm all the way up to about 5500 rpm.
The Dyno shows my HP / Torque curves crossing at the 5300 mark..... so that's where I plan to do my shifting.
I'm not trying to get other C5 guys to buy this product..... I'm just posting my results on the board 'cuz now my '98 model is faster than an '03 from a dealer (not Z06's........yet) :D
I requested more info from 21st Century muscle cars. Sounds like snake oil to me!
And John Page will tell you it sounds like snake oil to him as well. Remember, he is not going to advertise this product because he does not want this type of criticism. This will be a word of mouth mod that will definitely work on some cars. I saw it twice on Saturday, and if I wasn't going to be adding a cam and headers soon, I would have been next in line!
Just trying to clear things up about torque and hp crossing at "5300 rpm". In SAE units, torque and HP will ALWAYS cross at "5300 rpm". Why ? Because the formula is:
HP = torque * rpm / 5252
So, when rpm is at 5252, mathematically, HP = torque. This is just number and as you have known the units are different. This only works for horsepower and ft-lbs. This doesn't mean you have to shift at 5252 rpm to get the most out of the engine.
Shift points are a whole different complex story, maybe for next time :)
Okay,.... it's not snake oil - but it works better on some C5's than others.
I've been told that Z06 vettes with this mod "LOOSE" about 1-2 HP !!!
Also, the newer models with the re-designed intake gain only about 7-8 Hp.
Mine is a 1998 A4 C5 with a Blackwing, Smooth air coupler, & Borlas.... (no pre-cats on my model) nothing else.... then I added the plate.
*Keep in mine another factor which makes me skeptical about the amount of 'gain'..... It was Hot, hot, hot outside and the first pull was after my C5 had been in the sun for several hours !
The second pull was after plate install & the car was sitting in the shaded garage for about 1 1/2 hours. Soooooo it's probably only a 12-15hp gain when considering those factors. :chevy
What did it look like!?! Was it hollow? Same inside diameter as upstream/downstream components? Have swirl chambers? Did it lean out the fuel mixture? Did you run the car for 40-60 miles so the PCM would adjust fuel delivery (like when changing other intake/exhaust components)?
Just curious. Sounds like an easy item to duplicate if it only effectively increases the length of the intake runner.
I've got a C5 Power Plate on my car as well. Before and after dyno numbers show a 8 rwhp / 9 rwtq gain. It's been on my car now for a couple of months...I did a search for it on the internet and didn't come up with anything. I don't think the people that make the thing even have a website.
I does look like voodoo...and snake oil, but all I can tell you is that it worked for me....cheapest hp gains I've had! We've joked about "stacking" them up to get REALLY big gains!
It has little or no improvement to the LS6 motors. We haven't found out for sure why.

It's about 3/4" thick aluminum plate with a hole cut in the center. There are about 3 ridges carved on the inside diameter which I didn't have a chance to compare to my intake or MAF. The ridges are shaped like teeth on a gear - rounded with a flatspot (or nearly flat) top edge. Sorry, I don't have pictures.
However, my dad wants to install his & I'll be sure to post photos when I buy it for him.
I ordered one. I'm goign to see if I can get a dyno this weekend. I'll also tune with LS edit. After I put my cam in I'll also pull out this swirl thing and see what happens to the HP numbers then.
