does hood seal reduce performance?
Installed a Blackwing about 6 months ago, very impressed. Finally got a hood seal because of the water intrusion nightmares I have heard of with the BW getting wet. I immediately noticed that my acceleration was weaker. I have been told that the hood seal lets less air in the engine bay and therefore less air to get sucked through the filter which =less performance. Does this make sense? Thanks

I seriously doubt it makes a noticeable difference. If you look at all the possible air entrance ways into the engine bay, you must conclude that there's no lack of air for the intake. If you're really concerned about this, pull your fog light shrouds and install Z06 screens or cold air screens. That's the best of both worlds - fresh air and no water intrusion.
That's what I did.

It has nothing to do with performance and everything to do with keeping your engine compartment cleaner from rain and dirt... You get all air flow from the bottom of your C5...

I agree on the engine cleanliness, just postin my experience with the seal and it was very noticeable that acceleration was decreased. Seems that if their is less dirt in the engine bay, that equates to less air geting in...the rest is history.

I've wondered about that myself and also if the seal causes higher temps in the engine compartment.

Re: does hood seal reduce performance? (aaaa)
Think about it! Does anyone here actually think, that the GM body/airflow engineer, who put hood seals on the sides and back, just FORGOT to put one on the front!
That seal is NOT there for a purpose. I believe air flows in/out of that slot, improving underhood air flow and lowering temperatures.
I am sure the added seal does help keep the area cleaner, but at a cost.

I certainly didn't notice any decrease in performance when I put mine in. The car does run about 2 degrees warmer but that might be due to some other mods that I made also. I do have cold air screens too.

It would be hard for me to say wheather installing the hood seal diminished my overall performance as I installed the Donaldson Blackwing and the performance hood seal at the same time. I noticed a definite speed enhancement with the Blackwing. No temperature problems to report as of this writing. Speaking of Z06 front seals, how much do they cost, and what is there non cosmetic value? Please advise.

I installed the hood seal and noticed no difference. I did it mainly to keep out dust and water.
