Default Dyno Questions

I have dyno'd my car on two different Dynojet dynos in my local area. The results of my second dyno day are very different from the first.

My first dyno day produced a dyno chart where my HP and TQ numbers crossed at approx. 5250 RPM.

At my second dyno day yesterday with the same car and no additional mods produced a dyno graph where my HP and TQ numbers crossed at 4840 RPM. The dyno shop was dyno'ing my A4 in 2nd gear. Knowing that the tranny gearing is a 1:1 ratio in 3rd I had them do a dyno run in 3rd. The graph for the 3rd gear pull resulted in the HP and TQ crossing at just over 6000 RPM.

Now with an A4 I know it's a not as easy to dyno because of the shifting characteristics of the tranny. However like my first dyno day shouldn't my HP and TQ numbers still cross at around 5252 RPM regardless? All of the MN6 cars that dyno'd yesterday had their respective HP and TQ curves cross at approx. 5250 RPM.

For yesterday's dyno day is there a correction factor or adjustment not set with their Dynojet? If so what is the correction factor and can it be applied to the numbers I have?

Is there something about the TQ converter I need to take into consideration?

Hp and torque always cross at 5250. Check your dyno graph , the only time I've seen this happen was when there is a different scale for hp and torque on each side of the graph. For example; the HP scale might go from 200 to 400 on one side of the graph while the torque scale might go from 200 to 450 on the other side.

:iagree: That or the correction factor you already stated. Good luck.

The scale is different for the HP and TQ. That would explain the curves not meeting at 5252 RPM. However, now I am stumped as to why my dyno numbers are so off. My run 4 months ago on a Dynojet 248 produced 309.9 HP and 316.2 TQ. The run this past weekend on a Dynojet 248 produced a best of 289 HP and 291 TQ. Both are SAE corrected numbers and I did expect a little of a variance, but not as much as what the dyno showed.

Also, how does converter lock-up impact the dyno numbers? I think I recall from doing some LS1 Editing that 2nd gear may not lock up. I will have to check this...
