I noticed in the owners manual that you don't change anything but engine oil and air filters till 100k miles? Thats a long time. Previous cars i've had you had to do atleast something around the 50-60k mark, spark plugs, belts, coolant change etc..
Is it good general practise to follow the manual and not touch anything till 100k?

Stick around here, and before you have 10 k on it half the car will be changed .
Gee we love to make these cars what GM forgot .

The maintenance schedule on my C5 looks a lot different than the schedule on my BMW motorcycle.
You might want to obtain a service manual for your year, it has more specific instructions. If the car is used in more severe service (hills, high performance operation, heavy traffic, etc) there are more frequent service requirements. I believe the DEX-COOL is every 60 months.
Most owners get "jumpy" and want to change fluids, etc more often that specified, so don't feel alone. I don't think you will hurt anything as long as the maintenance items (oils & lubricants, etc) meet the GM specifications.
I change the engine oil by the DIC all the time. Does anyone know whats involved with changing the DEX cool? Mines a '99 with 27ki miles, looks like its time to change it? Can this be done at home? Where can I buy the fluid. Probably don't need to touch the spark plugs for a looong time. How long does the belt last in C5's? I put Redline synthetic in the manual tranny so that should be good pretty much forever. Spark plug wires ever need swap?
So far looks like only thing I need to do for quite some time is the coolant change... If anyone else thinks differently let me know! :reddevil
