I was driving in BKLYN, NY and a small rock flew into my window shield. Crack is very small, but want to prevent it from getting any bigger. How much should I expect to pay? I have a HUD, so I think I have special glass. Do I have to pay more to fix chip, or do I have to replace window all together? Please help.
most insurance companies will send out a repair company free of charge to you (no deductible) to try and repair it...as long as you carry comprehensive insurance...
If they can't fix it, you can opt to have it replaced and you just pay the comp. deductible.
What if I don't want my insurance company involved? I want to just pay cash and avoid the insurance company from trying to screw me later on. How much would it cost to fix?
I bought a do it yourself windshield chip repair kit at Wal-Mart. I had a small chip that started to run in three directions, within minuites of getting it. I found this repair kit made by Pennzoil at Wal-Mart for $10. I did the repair in Wal-Mart's parking lot. If you look real hard, you can see part of the chip. I did this a little over three weeks and 2,000 miles ago.

The insurance company won't hold this against you. . .a glass claim will be filed on your record, but a chip repair costs them so little, they're just happy you opted to try it. Honestly, it works much better than the do-it yourself kind. . .
