I was under the car today..The inside edge of driver side front tire is showing cord. :eek: I only have 20,000 miles on the fronts.. :D
Not a daily driver so...

Since I need new tires anyway, should get the alignment at the same time..

I lowered it about 1 inch.. About 10,000 miles ago..Never had an alignment..Was this the cause?

I am guessing the extreme negative angle came from the lowering.

 

$99 will buy you a four-wheel laser-and-rack alignment here in middle TN.

 

I am going through the same thing. Passenger tire is not bad and th rest of the tread on the drivers looks good, but that inside edge is toast.

(I thought the GF got it aligned a while back, guess not)

 

I paid 135$ for lifetime alignment at Firestone in DFW after lower mine.

 

100 $ will be a good price. After lowering a C5, alignment is mandatory ! You placed the gravity point of the car more down, though you increased the pressure on the inner side of the tires. Allignment will solve the problem.

I paid $70 at Kaufman Tire. I don't know if they have those in Fla. Take some boards with you if you have been lowered. I cut an 8 foot 2x10 in half at a 45 degree angle. They fit in the back of the car and need to go under the rear wheels to get it on the rack without bottoming out. Good luck.

Lowering my car was the first mod I did four years ago... car had maybe 1000 miles on it... I never aligned the car after I lowered it.... I got 43,000 miles out of those tires... with about 2000 miles left on the tires.. maybe 3/32 on the fronts 2/32 on the back... all even all the way except the fonts where worn alittle more on the inside... when I went to get new tires....I bought the tires Goodyear EMT's again... from a local shop with an excellent reputation.. the aliignment tech had 28 years experience.. the alignment rack was less than a year old hunter lazer....this machine could handle 21 inch wheels... 4 wheel alignment took him 45 minutes with me watching him and explaining everything as he went along....he asked me if I wanted the Z06 specs.... or the factory setting for my car... I opted for the factory specs... MY car was out alittle.. but not much...each spec has a tolerance.... a + - value..... this guy hit every spec right on the nut... as I watch.... the hardest part was getting ym car up on the rack.. ( lowered ).... the cost was 50 dollars... their standard four wheel price with the purchase of four tires... the Goodyears were cheaper than Tire rack's prices... buy 70 dollars for the four...here in Philly area I see signs at Midas, and Monrow shops... 49,00 to 75.00 dollars for four wheel alignment.... the GM dealer here wanted 129 dollars

I went with the Firestone Mastercare lifetime deal, they will re-align every 5000 miles or "as needed" for the rest of your cars natural life. It's worth the extra few $ this time to pay NOTHING ever again.

If you get tires at the same time, have them do the alignment FIRST, or come back the next day so your car has time to 'settle' once it is down from the lift. I've read a few threads about how the shocks on C5's take a few miles to come to rest at their normal position, and I have noticed at home that there is a good bit more room for the jack after the car has just been lowered than there was before I lifted it up.

Its not so much of how much will it cost, but how good of an alignment will I get...

Its a bit of a drive for you but the alignment tech at Courtesy Chevy (formerly Mealey) on West 50 in Orlando does an outstanding job. The Corvette service manager is tops in the area...

I tired a local shop, TiresPlus for $79.00 Destroyed front tires with their alignment.

I called Chevy Stores and found prices of $75 to $200.00 for 4 wheel alignment.

I had the same experience in reverse. My Chevy dealer ruined a set of front tires on my car with their poor alignment. I had much better luck at the local Firestone store.

 

I went to the alignment shop recommended by West Coast Corvettes here in So. Cal and paid $100. Had to go through an interview where I was asked what kind of driving I do, whether I usually drive alone or with someone in the passenger seat and how much do I weigh. They aligned the car with my weight in the driver seat.
