Okay, I'm from the old school of bolt-ons and carb-tuning.
What's the difference btwn. the Hypertech, Predator, & LS1 edit ?!?
Can I save any $$$ by just buying the Hypertech for my own tuning or are there limitations ???
Also, is the LS1 edit for serious mods like cam, heads, or headers ???
I've been doing mild mods like the following :
- Blackwing + smooth air coupler
- Borla Stingers
- C5 Power Plate <search threads on this one under 'power plate'>
- 160 T-stat
* Underdrive pulley(s) yet to come.....
Let's put it this way: Tuning on the HPP, Predator and LS1 Edit goes from mild to wild respectively.
On the HPPIII, tuning is very limited so it mostly applies to A4s. M6 people will get hardly any results here. (If you are an M6 person, and got results with the HPPIII, chime in.)
Predator is newest of the bunch and aside from a basic tuning mod that you can flash your ECU with, you have a little more degree of tuning here like fuel enrich/lean and knock retard/advance. It akso have a monitoring system (although not savable or printable) and it can pull error codes and erase them (OBDII but ONLY for the C5 it is first connected to).
LS1Edit gives you te most freedom when it comes to programming your ECU. It has a steep learning curve and you gotta know your parameters pretty well to get real results from this. I heard of people freeing up 20hp from doing LS1/wideband tuning alone. Alot of knowledgeable forum members here, you want to talk to rbartick for more ifo.
If I were you, I would go with the predator at least. It has a 30day money back guarantee. Contact James at http://www.runninwiththedevil.com for this.
I had a Predator and sent it back for refund. It does not record. So, if you want to watch the performance of your car while driving, let a friend drive and you will need to write down the readings. The unit comes with a performance program for your PCM. My car did not run any better with it. It does have some useful aspects, but it was not for me. There is more bang for your buck if you have an auto and it's very easy to use. You might want to make sure you have a free trial period if you buy it.

Thanks for the heads up !
More than likely ~ I'll do the LS-1 edit route at a local speed shop. :D
IF getting a predator I'd make sure to get a Dyno after changes to verify that it worked.

I'm short on the learning curve as well, but love a challenge, so I'm going to do this as well with my own copy of LS1Edit. Hopefully I'll learn something. :)
