My 99 FRC (27k miles) has been making a high pitched squeak or squeal noise when the car is cold and only when in gear and moving, usually at low rpm and high gear for a while now... the noise goes away once the car is warm, about 5 minutes. I just replaced the serpentine belt and the noise did not change... No noise if you rev the engine with the clutch in or in neutral...??? Only when in gear and moving... Any ideas??? I am driving from Chicago to Phoenix starting this Friday and am a little concerned about this developing into something on the way...
Re: High Pitched noise when cold and moving... (vetterdstr)
Why would the noise occur only when moving (clutch & trans engaged)? If i just rev the engine cold I get no noise... which tells me it isn't the water pump or other belt-related item...???
The serpentine was just replaced as stated in the original post.
Re: High Pitched noise when cold and moving... (Lawmagnet)
It is not the brakes, the noise sounds almost like a bearing from inside the alternator or something... and once it gets warm - no noise... This is what is so puzzling... it isn't the wheel bearings because the noise isn't constant with the speed of the car... it starts or gets louder when I hit the gas, but only if I'm moving... typically 3rd gear 25-35 mph...

I also have a strange high pitched noise when moving and also only between 1300 and 1800 rpm in gears 3-6. But mine comes from the back of the car. :skep: I have no clue what it could be!
I also have 27k miles!!!
