Evil-twin, the thermostat cooling the engine thing is a peeve of yours, isn't it?

Thanks for all the replies everyone! It looks like I'll get a hypertech 180 for $45 or so! LS1Edit should be here before long, so I'll mess with the fans as well.

well after being an automotive engineer for the last 30 years with designs in this C5 I have alot of pet peeves... and IM just trying to help...I know your joking with me... but this guy has problems , and IM trying to help him...I spenty alot of time doing research on some of these issues... I have a lot of data.. tires, tire pressure, cabin noise, cooling are just a few of my pet peeves... also.. as far as stats go... these c5 stat have a high rate of failure.... taking some data from several local corvewtte clubs plus my own experiences,.,, Ive found 170 stats from BPP opening at 190...
Hypertech seems to be the best brand out there.. but if I buy a 160.. I want it to open at 160... not at 190... so I suggest testing a new stat specially since these cars are coolant poor in the summer.. little margin for error.. dirty condensor, dirty radiator, bent coolant fins will dramatically effect your cooling.. also as Ive posted... look up between the condensor and the radiator and see if there is any debris there.. I cleaned mineout a few weeks ago and got a clump of stuff that looked like it came from a vacuum cleaner bag... pollen, dust bunnies feathers.., twigs etc.,...a clump about 4 in by 5 inches by 2 inches..

I just realized YOU are beating on me... and Im trying to help YOU....this is your thread,,, and by your last post you didnt listen to a word I said...

I run a hypertech 160 spring through fall.. and then swiitch to a 190 for the winter... takes me less than five minutes to switch them...

Evil-Twin,
What are your thoughts on modifying the older T-Stats with a spacer to lower opening temp?

there are several threads on this subject... for me, I would rather buy a new one< but it's a viable option as long as it doesn't hang up.. and it opens where you want it too.. for me .. I wanted two stats...one for summer driving a 160 F, and one for winter driving 190 F.. the swap takes minutes to achieve.
