Default Need Help Long Tubes or Shorties

Well the time may have neared were I might be in the position to pull the trigger on some headers very soon. I know the hp and torque advantages to the LT but my concern is cutting away the precats and having emission issues later dn the road. I toyed with the idea of also doing Random Tech mid section along with the LT's, this way I can keep my stock setup and have it installed should I fail inspection. The shorties would give me some more gain but if it's enough gain to support the cost for it is another story. Need opinions!

From what I've read on the Forum, you may as well save your money as to go with shorties.

Get long tubes, the shorties are not much better than your stock manifolds.

LT's all the way, Look into the FLP setup. It uses high flow cats and switching to off road pipes takes only 20 minutes. :chevy

Before my H/C and shorty headers but with most of the rest of my mods, the dyno said 325rwhp and 320rwtq. A month later under similar conditions but with the shorty headers, the dyno said 322rwhp and 325rwtq.

The numbers speak for themselves

In my opinion the shorties are not worth doing. If you dont have enough money for the LT's, just wait untill you do and you will be happier in the long run. :seeya

Save your Money.. You will NOT be that impressed on a basically stock car.. You have an MN6.. Use the money and install 4.10's you will need plastic surgery to remove your smile...

There is always a debate on header gains... I have em and hardly noticed them. I installed 4.10 gears and they ROCK this car!!!

There is NEVER a debate on 4.10's..

They are both gonna cost you about the same with install..

I agree with Chuckster. But, if additional pieces (heads, cam etc.) are in your future you will need the headers. Longtubes . Shorties are are a lot like falsies...strictly for appearance......no meat so to speak. :D

You are correct sir...LT Headers are a must when doing heads and cam..They do give improvement on a stock motor but NOTHING compared to the gears...

Anyone know if the Long Tubes are legal since you need to remove the Pup Cats?

From what I was told the pre cats are not neccessary. They fire up only when the car is cold. Unless the inspection stations crawls under your car or lifts it up (yea right like anyone of us will ever let an inspection lift our Vette) to take a look to see if they are there, they will never know. Technically speaking any removal of any type of emission control device would not be legal.

We at Xtreme carry shorties but only for Cali people that REALLY want them.We always try to talk them out of it.Its always nice to know when you make a HI-PO sale there will be a true gain and not the 20 non existent HP some mfrs, print on there box.Dave Smilovic.

I have the shorties because I don't want the LT issues; the B&Bs are the best looking headers in my opinion and got them mainly for that reason. There was an increase in sound and performance but it was minimal; not worth the money from that aspect. LT are good for performance and sound but the issues: ground clearance, heat, fit, repair R&R, emissions (yeah, I care about this but too many of my fellow vette modaholics don't care), and possible warranty problems are things I don't really want to deal with.
