My codes started "charging system not functioning" is there anything I'm not aware of this could be besides the alternator, I know the Nascar battery is fine and the codes said not charging, of course no one has an alternator in stock so I am having to overnight one in. With the belt that runs around the blower as well it could be a bitch to put in but fortunately they do have the alternators in a easy to reach location.---thanks bill
I have owned a 92 Z24, a 98 GTP, a 99 tahoe, and my mom had a 92 grand prix. ALL have had to have the alternators replaced!!!! A real Achillies heel for GM. If your out of warranty, best bet is to go to Autozone or Advanced as their's have lifetime warranties

Re: ANYBODY BLOWN AN ALTERNATOR (BLOWN IN NC)
IMHO: Before you go out and spend some of your hard earned cash, go through and check your battery cables and as many of the wiring harness/body grounds as you can locate. There are a couple or three grounds in the engine compartment that are easy to find and check.
If you have any poor connections (sometimes maybe more than one) that are causing too much of a voltage drop, then the alternator possibly cannot keep up with the current demands being placed on the battery. If you have added any electrical items to the car such as amps, etc. then the situation just gets aggravated. HTH
After five years of abuse, my stock alternator's bearings went bad and it was not charging. I could hear a slight whine and the volts started dropping. Of course, I've been running a Supercharger with a Carrol Belt tentioner on it for the last 2 years, not to mention the last 6 months with the 8 rib setup.
The Alternator is a fairly easy swap, I did it in my garage without my hastle.
Good luck,
JB
I'm not hearing any noises like pully's or bearings, I checked the battery cables and a couple of the grounds that have given me a problem in the past-but good suggestion I'll check them again, after cranking on battery the gauge starts immediately going towards the zero, it is not delivering, I have extended warranty and know the dealership guys so I may be able to get a freebee but I don't want another GM alternator, Joe Vinci found me an alternator that will be here monday--probably wouldn't hurt to replace the Delco anyway if the battery's are any indication of the alternator--thanks for all the replys guys
