I purchased my first corvette (torch red 99) about 30 days ago. I have a pretty bad case of mod fever. In order of impact or importance, what is the Top 5 Performance Bolt Ons with a corresponding list of brand names to choose from.

I don't think there are 5 top true "bolt-on" mods, but I would recommend

1) Intake - Blackwing, Vararam or Vortex
10 or so rwhp

2) Exhaust - Borla, Corsa, GHL, B&B, Magnaflow, among others
maybe 5 rwhp

3) For a '99 you can bolt on the LS6 intake.
Not really sure about performance/hp gains.

4) Power duct - Vortex and a few others. No real difference except aesthetics. Bolt on, but maybe one or two hp.

5) Headers
Most are not bolt on, but I believe the FLP system is.
15 rwhp I think is reasonable.

 

1) Radar detector (detectors4less.com)
2) sheepskin wash mit (madvet.com)
3) Zaino (zainostore.com)
4) GT2 timer (detectors4less.com)
5) front window sunshade (madvet.com)

That's what I've done so far, now I'm going for:

6) Intake (Vararam or Blackwing, not sure yet)

My suggetions without breaking the bank are as follows
1-Black wing intake about 215.00 and performs as good as 500.00+ systems.
2-Hurst shifter for 6 spd. only189.00
3-Borla stingers cat back exhaust 599.00,They render up tp 15 rrwhp and goes great with the blackwing
4-Stainless works long tube headers complete kit Headers /Low restriction Cats/X pipe and with the stingers it will sound and move VERY FASTabout 1500.00 and worth every dime you save noney over buying 600.00 cats,1000.00 for headers and anothe 250-300 for the X pipe.
Seperatly at least 2500.00 but buying the kit provides more HP because all the components are tuned to work in harmony together.You save 1000.00 and get more power than buying it peace meal and the sound is a bit on the loud sound but it weighs less than the Z06 Ti system and is constructed of T304 stainless(nuclear proof,I sell alot of these and being we make money in our install about 500.00 and if you want to save shop and a bit on parts thats why we compete with the little guy whos working on a shop not really aparts,you got to keep up with Vendor thats small and doesnt get the sames
pricing because when they make a batch we get top priority, Courtesy as we do from the Manufaturer and its a life time warranty if a flange broke we would UPS a new system that day and get another system from FLP unless it was installed wrong or just modded the csr to bolt on heaven.
No Chevy dealer would have the ***** to not replace and make good to all parties involved.
6Sixth and final 3:73's or 4:10 gears this will give you no more HPNeither would the shifter)But you would launch like a Catapult and be blowing Z06's off the road.I answered these mods with 1's that will cut a second or more off a stock motor and yet be comfy and still have the driveability Corvette C5's are known for.The shifter allows you much faster shifts and makes the positive differance in fun and cuts a bit of time off the ET as well.
Latter on down the road we can explore Suspension,brakes.wheels,tires and sway bars all hardware needed to make it out handle the Z06with ease.IMHO this package would be good for40-50 rear wheel hp and alot of low end tqe. specially if gears are replaced.

I don't know what level of importance to assign it.........but ,if you have a stick -> you need an aftermarket shifter. :yesnod: :thumbs:

 

I agree with this one however if you can swing the cash I would port my on TB and raise the cash for a 390 or 410 its like adding 50+rwhp, the UD pulley is good for about 10rwhp and the same for the black wing, I know the GHL's get 5 to 6rwhp minimum on a stock motor and probably 20rwhp on H/C car but they will grow with your mods, if you are doing the headers and cat back and can get away with it I would deff put on an off road X as much as 20rwhp and torque, and another one we shouldn't forget is a good dyno tune or ls1 edit.

 

well im in the same boat.. and i can tell you gears are highly reommended.. as i have been told by the gurus on here.. loosing the 3.42's for the 4.10s
